The first test match between South Africa and Sri Lanka started on a rain-hit day, today.
The match is being played at Kingsmead Cricket Ground in Durban. Sri Lankan bowlers made an early impact on South Africa’s batting.
Sri Lanka’s Strong Start
Sri Lankan captain Dhananjaya de Silva won the toss and decided to field. It was a smart move, though.
The bowlers, especially Lahiru Kumara, used the cloudy weather well. Kumara took out two wickets, including one where he bowled out David Bedingham.
Rain Stops Play
But still, the rain started pouring persistently in and out and kept the players away from play quite frequently.
Therefore, only 20.4 overs could be bowled during the day, and at stumps, South Africa had reached 80/4.
Overview from Day 1
- Bowlers from Sri Lanka, particularly Lahiru Kumar,a have been good during overcast conditions.
- There has been a lot of rain to disrupt the game and curtail the overs bowled.
- South Africa will need to rebuild their innings on the second day in order not to be left behind with a huge first-innings deficit.
The weather, however, is expected to be worse in the coming days.
Only time will tell how the game will go as the two teams will be praying for better weather conditions to ensure more cricketing action takes place.
