Born in Badbar village in Rajasthan, Sachin Tanwar didn’t always dream of becoming a kabaddi player. His early years were spent helping out on his family’s farm, as is common in many rural areas of India.
Initially, Sachin had his sights set on joining the Army, a respected and common aspiration for many young men in his village. Kabaddi was not part of his plan, but fate had other ideas.
It was his brother, Deepak, who first introduced Sachin to kabaddi. Deepak’s passion for the sport slowly began to influence Sachin, sparking his interest.
“Watching my brother play kabaddi piqued my interest in the sport,” Sachin recalls. Though he was initially reluctant, the sport began to grow on him, overshadowing his previous dream of joining the Army.

Sachin’s journey in kabaddi took a pivotal turn in 2015 when an unexpected opportunity knocked on his door.
His brother Deepak was selected to play in a youth kabaddi tournament, but an unfortunate injury kept him from participating.
That’s when Deepak suggested that Sachin take his place. “When a coach checked on him, my brother said I should play instead,” Sachin fondly remembers.
This moment of brotherly love became the turning point in Sachin’s Life. He seized the opportunity, playing his first major match and showcasing his raw talent.
From there, there was no looking back. Sachin’s skills continued to grow, and soon, he found himself on the radar of top coaches and talent scouts in the kabaddi world.
Rising Through the Ranks
Sachin’s rise in kabaddi was swift. At the young age of 17, he captained the Indian team in the Junior Asian Championships held in Iran in 2016.
Leading his team to a gold medal victory, Sachin demonstrated his potential on an international stage.
His performance in Iran proved that he was not just another player from a small village – he was a future star in the making.
However, despite his early success, Sachin initially faced challenges in entering the PKL due to age restrictions. But his undeniable talent did not go unnoticed.
Manpreet Singh, the current head coach of Haryana Steelers, recognized his potential while he was coaching the Gujarat Giants. This was the beginning of Sachin’s professional career in the PKL.
