The day’s play in the second Test at Pune began brightly for New Zealand as its openers went to lunch at 92/2.

Devon Conway continued the Kiwi fight, he was not out on 47, and Rachin Ravindra had five runs.

The only silver lining for India was Ravichandran Ashwin, who scalped two big wickets.

Since the New Zealand team decided to bat first after winning the toss, the Kiwi camp must be satisfied with their performance in the first session and hope for more improvement in the second session than the early setback by Ashwin.

Ashwin celebrates three wickets, but New Zealand proves stiff neck

Ashwin did not take much time to set his dominance as he trapped New Zealand captain Tom Latham LBW in the eighth over of the day.

Latham and Conway had provided the visitors with a good base before Ashwin’s spin change threw the plans off balance.

Ashwin also got rid of Will Young later, and with that, a ray of hope emerged before the Indian team for an ascendancy.

Nevertheless, Conway came good and anchored the Kiwi innings to a great start to get a grip over the Indian bowlers before lunch.

India’s search for redemption after Bengaluru defeat

India lost the first test in Bengaluru after being dismissed for 46 in the first innings, which put pressure on them to redeem in Pune.

Captain Rohit Sharma made three changes to the team that lost their previous match, bringing back Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar, and Akash Deep.

But the worry for the Indian team is their inexperienced and vulnerable batting line-up in the power play, which struggled in the initial game.

New Zealand, who triumphed by eight wickets in the last match, will target a history-making series win in India, where no visiting team has achieved the landmark since 2012.
