India is set for a fight against New Zealand in the first test of the three-match series at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

This series is important for India as they need to whitewash New Zealand to help themselves get to the WTC final for the third time in a row.

“We need to produce our best cricket to secure a place in the WTC final. Every match counts.” – Indian Captain Rohit Sharma

Since the pressure has been down on the India side they will have to produce the best cricket team that will be able to put them down in the first match that is scheduled.

The squad has already been declared, but the playing eleven will be in focus as few players are likely to be dropped, and out of them, pacemaker Mohammed Siraj is one of them. Here is a glimpse of the predicted playing eleven for India in the first Test.

Sturdy in the batting department with Jaiswal, Gill, and Kohli

Position Player
Opener Rohit Sharma (C)
Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal
No. 3 Shubman Gill
No. 4 Virat Kohli
No. 5 Rishabh Pant (WK)
No. 6 KL Rahul
No. 7 Ravindra Jadeja
No. 8 Ravichandran Ashwin
No. 9 Kuldeep Yadav
No. 10 Akash Deep
No. 11 Jasprit Bumrah

India’s batting lineup seems well set, with team captain Rohit Sharma as an opener, followed by the brilliant Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Jaisal is the leading run-scorer for India in this ongoing WTC cycle and is expected to carry his form further in the series.

Shubman Gill, who has registered himself at a new position of no.3, will be replaced by the experienced Virat Kohli at the no.4.

Kohli, who has struggled with his form in the previous games, will hope to find his touch before the important Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.

Rishabh Pant is expected to be back in the playing eleven as the first-choice wicketkeeper, and KL Rahul will take his place at No. 6, thereby de-purchasing Sarfaraz Khan from the team.

All-Rounders and Spin Attack to Lead the Charge

Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, the two best all-rounders in world cricket today will be the middle-lower order in the team.

Both are essential when it comes to the batting side of things, while the former spearheads the Indian spin department during what should be turn friendly wicket at Bengaluru.

Kuldeep Yadav is probable to become the third spinner on the team, thereby complementing a formidable triumvirate of slow bowlers.

This means India is keen to make much of the conditions with their three world-class spinners.

Siraj out of the Pace Department as Akash Deep comes in

A rather unexpected selection, Akash Deep will join the playing 11 at the age of 29 and replace the more senior Mohammed Siraj.

Akash Deep, who bowled at a good pace during the Ranji Trophy, will share the new ball with stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah. A total of two pacers and three spinners is likely to be the bowling lineup for India for the first Test.
