New Delhi, 22 January, 2025: Legendary South African batter AB de Villiers has sent shockwaves through the cricketing world by hinting at a possible return from retirement.

AB De Villiers, who announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in 2021, was renowned for his innovative stroke play and power with which he could dominate the bowlers.

But in a recent interview with Melinda Farrell, he hinted that he might return.

“One day, I might still play cricket,” de Villiers said. “Not confirmed at all, yet I’m beginning to sense it.

My children are high-fiving me, they feel I can go to the nets with them, and I will be feeling a little pressure.” If I like it I might go out there and play a bit more casual cricket there again not the IPL.pro stuff or SA tours.

De Villiers, who featured in 114 Tests, 228 ODIs and 78 T20Is, owns several records, including the fastest ODI fifty, century and 150.

His performances in the IPL, especially during his time with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), endeared him to fans around the world1

Although he dismissed a return to leagues like IPL, SA20, de Villiers confirmed his interest to play cricket for love of the game.

“I don’t want to feel that pressure again1. That’s the thing. That way wherever I go, I’ll be having some fun.”

Even though it would help casual matches, the cricketing world is still hopeful to see de Villiers return to the sport.
