Now, legendary South African cricketer AB de Villiers has announced his return to cricket.
The 40-year-old will lead Game Changers South Africa Champions as a part of a 16-member unit for the second edition of the World Championship of Legends (WCL), which pays homage to the greats of the game.
De Villiers, who was known for his innovative shots and audacious approach, retired in 2021 because of vision problems after an injury.
But his passion was rekindled after playing with his sons in the garden and he returned to the gym and nets.
He said he looked forward to leading the team, and returning the legends fans really need to see.
The WCL provides the nostalgia factor for the fans bringing in cricket legends like Jacques Kallis, Herschelle Gibbs, Dale Steyn, Imran Tahir and others who are not contracted elsewhere.
Its sets the stage for a thrilling engagement as cricket enthusiasts get ready for the showdown when the mega-event gets underway in July 2025.
