Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has expressed his ambition to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) starting from the 2026 season.

Amir, who retired from international cricket in 2024, is exploring avenues to join the league, notably by acquiring UK citizenship through his wife, Narjis, a British national m.economictimes.com

In a recent appearance on the show “Haarna Mana Hai,” Amir discussed his IPL aspirations, stating, “By next year, I will have the opportunity to play in the IPL, and if given the chance, why not? I will definitely play.”

Amir also revealed his preference for joining the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), expressing admiration for former RCB captain Virat Kohli.

He recalled a memorable gesture from Kohli during the 2016 T20 World Cup, where the Indian batsman gifted him a bat, leaving Amir “overwhelmed.”

Former Pakistani cricketer Ahmed Shehzad endorsed Amir’s potential impact on RCB, suggesting that Amir’s inclusion could address the team’s bowling challenges and bolster their chances of securing their maiden IPL title.

While Pakistani players have been absent from the IPL since 2009 due to political tensions, Amir’s prospective UK citizenship could enable him to participate as a local player, circumventing existing restrictions.

This development has sparked discussions about the potential reintegration of Pakistani talent into the league.

As the 2026 IPL season approaches, cricket enthusiasts will keenly observe Amir’s journey and the broader implications for cross-border participation in the sport.
