Jason Gillespie, the former Australian fast bowler and former Pakistan Test head coach, has strongly criticized Aaqib Javed, the current interim coach of Pakistan, calling him a “clown” on social media.
Gillespie’s sharp words came after Aaqib Javed expressed his frustration with the frequent changes in Pakistan’s team management and coaching staff, which he believes have negatively impacted the team’s performance.
Aaqib Javed pointed out that Pakistan has seen about 16 coaches and 26 selectors in the past couple of years.
He argued that this inconsistency, from the chairman down, hinders the team’s progress.
Gillespie, however, dismissed Aaqib Javed’s comments as “hilarious.” He alleged that Aaqib Javed was undermining him and Gary Kirsten behind the scenes, campaigning to become the coach in all formats.
Gillespie resigned from his position as Pakistan’s Test coach less than eight months after being appointed, before Pakistan’s series against South Africa. Gary Kirsten had also stepped down as limited-overs coach in October.
These consecutive coaching exits have highlighted the instability within Pakistan cricket’s management structure.
