In an incredible feat of talent and dedication, two young athletes from Karnal, Haryana, have made their town proud by winning the 36th Haryana State Senior Boys and Girls Kyorugi Taekwondo Championship 2024.

The contest, which took place between August 11 and 12 in Ambala Cantonment, was replete with keen competition, as participants from the entire state competed for first place in the various categories.

The top achievers were Rishita Dang, a BA 2nd-year student of Christ University, Ghaziabad, and Harmeet Singh, a student of St. Theresa’s Convent School, Karnal. They were honored as outstanding athletes, as they received silver and bronze medals, respectively, in their categories.

One of the competing players in the under 73kg Girls Category from Karnal, Rishita Dang, competed and showed her expertise by winning the silver medal on the mat. Christ University second-year BA, Ghaziabad’s Rishita was no less than a wonder, throwing a hard fight to the podium, where she was more dominant than several of her rivals.

This new achievement is yet another one on the long list of awards she aspires to receive, as she remains among the outstanding athletes in Haryana.

Harmeet Singh, who is also from Karnal, took third place in the category of over 87kg. Harmeet, a student of St. Theresa’s Convent School, has never missed the opportunity to showcase his skill and commit to the sport. His victory in the state championship is solid proof of his hard work and perseverance, which made him a model player for other aspirants in the area.

The Haryana State Taekwondo Federation, led by General Secretary Jasbir Singh Gill, readily congratulated the champion athletes and acknowledged their invaluable efforts in the sport. “Our young athletes, with their success, have made us proud.

The triumph that they achieved is a tribute to their devotion, and it motivates others to seek perfection in Taekwondo,” said Gill, stressing out the significance to educate budding talent on a local level.

Rishita Dang has been in the limelight before. She won the gold medal in the 35th Haryana State Senior Boys and Girls Kyorugi Taekwondo Championship and the previous year’s 15th Poomsae Taekwondo Championship in 2023.
