The nickname given to Rohit Sharma is the “Hitman” of cricket; he works his way into the legends of cricket because of his gifted talent and marvelous records in the specific type of cricket. He was born on 30 April 1987 in Nagpur Maharastra while he was brought up in Mumbai by his grandparents. He started cricket in 1999; one day, his cricket coach took his talent and helped him get admission to Swami Vivekanand International School on a scholarship. Early successes in school tournaments as a cricket player laid the bedrock for a future in professional cricket.

ODI Career

Rohit’s One Day International debut came in the year 2007 against Ireland. Although he had a decent opening, his half-century against Pakistan marked the opening salvo in his rise as a reliable middle-order batsman. It wasn’t until 2013, under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, that he was thrust as an opener in the Champions Trophy and overnight metamorphosed into one of the most consistent and prolific run-scorers in ODI cricket, going on to being promoted full-time captain of India across all formats.

T20 Career

Rohit played T20 for India and was part of the ICC Twenty20 World Cup winning team in 2007; his score was valuable at the right times in the matches. However, Rohit Sharma’s t20 career only began in 2013, in which he achieved what only Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma have done which is scoring centuries across all three formats of the game. Took one of the most stunning centuries against Sri Lanka in 2017 and is equated as the fastest T20I century off only 35 balls.

 Test Career

Rohit had played his first test match in the 2013 West Indies tour, where he smashed 177 runs in the first innings of the test match. It was always little Rohit Sharma of test cricket who had a volatile run initially but had some nice comeback in the test series in Australia in 2018-19. In the year 2019, he went on and finally made his double hundred in a test, playing the knock of 212 maximum against South Africa. Because of his aggressive temperament in the middle of the field, he became the vice-captain of the Indian Test team, and he is going to take the captaincy of Virat Kohli in 2022.

 Captainship

Rohit Sharma has also been ok as a captain of the Mumbai Indians that, participating in the Indian Premier League. He further went ahead at the international level also, where he led India to many bilateral series victories and some more achievements like the Asia Cup in 2018 and the Asia Cup in 2023.

Records and Achievements

Highest score by an Individual in ODIs: Most of the records are held by those who come from the sub-continent, but Rohit garners a record for the highest individual score in ODIs, which was 264 against Sri Lanka in the year 2014. Three Double Tons: In fact, he is the only cricketer who has achieved three double centuries, that too in the ODIs for the very first time.

Most sixes in international cricket: Rohit has scored more than 562 sixes in his international cricket, and that makes him the number one six-hitter in international cricket.

Five Centuries in a Single One-Day World Cup: Rohit achieved a record that is unique in the ICC World Cup 2019; it was the record of hitting five hundred for a player in a single edition of the World Cup.

 IPL Career

With Deccan Chargers entering IPL for the first time in 2008, it was MI where Rohit came into his own. Many leaders have contributed to the fact that MI won five titles in the IPL; now, he is one of the leading run-scorers with over 6,211 runs. Being a captain without a doubt while scoring the much-needed runs in the tournament has certainly made him amongst the all-time great players who have played IPL cricket.
