New Zealand won their first Test series in India with a memorable 113-run victory in Pune, thanks to Mitchell Santner’s incredible 13-run 13-wicket haul. Santaner’s spell is the third-best by a visiting Indian bowler.

This lasted until 2012, despite battling side effects. Santaner spelled tirelessly in two innings taking six in the first and seven in the second to win the game.

  • “New Zealand’s victory has shifted the Test cricket landscape.”

The visitors posted scores of 259 and 255, with key contributions from Devon Conway (76) and Tom Latham (86) seizing the innings.

For India, Washington Sundar proved crucial with 11 wickets in both innings, as Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin added significant strides.

However, New Zealand’s well-rounded approach and Santner’s incredible form with the ball gave them the advantage.

The Indian attack failed to chase down the target.

Chasing a target of 359, India came out fierce, led by Jaiswal’s famous 77 from just 65 balls. Opening with Rohit Sharma, Jaiswal’s daring shot put New Zealand in relegation soon.

India, on the other hand, made it 96 for 1. However, Santanar’s stubbornness soon broke, quickly dismissing Rohit Jaiswal Shubman Gill and halting India’s chase.

After Jaiswal’s dismissal, the chase eased as Santaner’s sharp turn and relentless pressure from the New Zealand defender brought India’s score down.

Rishabh Pant’s unfortunate run-out after a mix-up with Virat Kohli slowed India down further and Kohli was stranded at LBW soon after.

Despite a flexible stand of 39 between Ashwin and Jadeja, Santner came back to dismiss Ashwin and cement New Zealand’s winning streak.
