Ravindra’s Century, Southee’s Onslaught Put New Zealand in Command

New Zealand tasted dominance on the third day of the first India-New Zealand Test match at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Thanks to the 90-run eighth-wicket stand between Rachin Ravindra and Tim Southee.

Indian batting simply folded in the second session of day three as New Zealand completed their innings with an aggregate of 356 leaving India strongly on the back foot and under extreme pressure to avoid an innings loss.

Rachin Ravindra Stars As Domestic Trouble Shoots Century

Rachin Ravindra, who was playing in front of his family having come from the Bengaluru home, was simply sensational with a 134 off 157.

His innings was a cocktail of confidence and intent during NZ’s powerful partnership of 137 with Tim Southee.

Ravindra made a hundred for only his second time in Test cricket and could have not come at a better time as India was struggling at four down early in the session.

A standing ovation from the Bengaluru crowd ensued as Ravindra finished what was a magnificent knock in his family’s native city.

India was battered by Tim Southee’s assault on Wednesday.

Tim Southee’s Strike:

  • Counterattack: 65 off 73 balls, including 3 sixes.
  • New Zealand’s Total: 402, with a 299-run lead.

Tim Southee came good in the second innings with a counter-strike of 65 off 73 balls which had three big sixes.

His partnership with Ravindra came off just 132 balls, the 100 plus came in the last session of 97 balls.

With the ball, Southee not only revived New Zealand’s innings but also put his side in a dominating position leading by 299 on the second lunch interval.

Mohammed Siraj brought an end to the partnership by getting rid of Southee and then Ravindra also bowled out by Siraj. New Zealand’s inning came to an end at 402.

India would find it rather difficult after the first innings collapse.

India’s plight is grim after being bundled out for 46 runs in their first innings of the match. Now the Indian team is struggling with a 356-run deficit for the second innings going down against the Kiwis who seem to excel in the current series.
