Nagpur (Maharashtra) 26: Vidarbha’s batting sensation, Danish Malewar (26), has come to a deposit in the Ranji Trophy semi-final match against Keral in Vidarbha cricket association stadium.
The 21-year-old right-handed batsman batting on 79 and saw Vidarbha end the day at 308/52.
Malewar’s Impressive Innings
Malewar’s innings was a lesson in patience and technique. He got the length right to a tee and at the crease was solid as a rock against both pace and spin.
His 159-ball knock contained nine hits to the fence, including a cover drive off Mohit Avasthi and a pull off Shardul Thakur. Malewar’s century, although it was a solid enough score in itself.
Key Partnerships Malewar’s
There were some key partnerships in Malewar’s innings. He added 51 runs with opener Dhruv Shorey, who made in-form 74. He then stitched a 78-run stand with Karun Nair, who made a sedate 45.
These stands helped Vidarbha reach past the 300-run mark, as very few of Mumbai’s bowlers were able to make a visible impact.
Mumbai’s Bowling Struggles
The bowlers showed little improvement, as Mumbai were forced to use 13 no-balls and didn’t make use of the Jamtha track. The key bowlers were left-arm spinner Shams Mulani and all-rounder Shivam Dube, each snapping up two wickets.
But the new-ball duo of Shardul Thakur and Mohit Avasthi could not find their rhythm as the Vidarbha batsmen walked the attack.
Malewar’s Journey
Born into a middle-class family in Orange City, Malewar’s road to cricket stardom has been an inspiration. He has been working towards his father’s dream of getting into an India jersey since he was seven when he joined City Gymkhana academy.
Despite the financial strain, Malewar’s perseverance and toil finally bore fruit, propelling him into the list of Vidarbha’s breakout players this season
