Jay Shah Poised to Make History as ICC Chairman

Current ICC chief Greg Barclay term will conclude on November 30, and all of sudden speculations are being made about Jay Shah, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to be elected as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). August 27 is the last date of filing nomination for the position chairman of ICC.

ICC in its media release quoted. “It is now mandatory for current directors to submit nominations for the next Chair by August 27, 2024. In case multiple candidates, an election will take place, and the new Chair will take office on December 1, 2024.”

If appointed, this will mark a vital milestone not just in his career but also for cricket in India, he will be the fifth Indian to head ICC.

If elected, Shah’s elevation to this prestigious position will further reflect the growing influence of Indian cricket on the world stage.

Jay Shah’s tenure as cricket administrator has been very impactful. His decision-making and vision have been critical to not only his success but for BCCI and for Indian cricket also.

Shah was appointed as the BCCI Secretary in October 2019, and since then, he has played a vital role in shaping of Indian cricket. Under his leadership, the BCCI has had several challenges, including the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. He was instrumental in organizing the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the United Arab Emirates in 2020, this move was widely praised for its execution and success under challenging circumstances.

At the age of 35, Shah could become the youngest chairman of the Indian Cricket Council (ICC), making history with Indians who have held the position in the past, like Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan, and Shashank Manohar
