On the second day of the 1st Test between India and New Zealand, the Indian batting line-up succumbed to the NZ pace duo in Bengaluru.

It was already 34/6 for the hosts by lunch, and the main batsmen did not manage to stand to the bowling, frustrating the crowd. India was in trouble right after the early loss of wickets when Rohit Sharma opted to bat first.

New Zealand seamers annihilate the Indian batting order

New Zealand fast bowlers Tim Southee and Matt Henry destroyed the Indian batting on a rain-affected day of play.

Fitness issues made India switch lines with Shubman Gill sidelined, and Sarfaraz Khan was called up.

However, the novel change did not pay off since the Indian middle order collapsed easily.

Even Akash Deep lost his place, although India decided to bolster their spin department through Kuldeep Yadav.

However, India failed to come out of their shell at all as the New Zealand pitch suited the seam bowlers and the overcast sky did not help India at all.

Rain Still Causes Disruptions

The southern Indian city of Bengaluru is storm affected for the last 48 hours and the rain has spoiled the play again and again.

After a rain-shortened Day 1, Day 2 also saw interruptions, with the umpires calling off the session early at 2:30 pm local time. More rain has been anticipated for the rest of the match, and this may yet cause another change in the result.

The second Test in the three-test series has been planned for October 24 and the third Test in Mumbai will be played on November 1.

As much as both teams expect improvement in weather, they will be hopeful to leave their mark in the series.
