The hosts, England got into a dominant spot during the second day of the 2nd Test against Pakistan in Multan with the virtual rampage by Ben Duckett’s aggressive half-century.

When Pakistan declared at 366 for 8 in the first innings, Duckett once again took the England team on a timely rampage and got 53 off 60 balls to really infuse some life from the visitors, as they reached 96 for 1 at tea.

It was also his 12th Test half-century which put more intent in England’s start that threatened to engulf Pakistan’s lead.

  • Opening Stand: 73-run partnership with Zak Crawley
  • Crawley’s Contribution: 27 runs before getting dismissed
  • Ollie Pope: Added five runs before tea

At 96 for 1, England had made significant progress by the tea break, setting the stage for a potential first-innings lead.

Pakistan’s Tail Adds Crucial Runs

The Pakistan innings that began on 309 for eight received cameos from Aamer Jamal (37) and Noman Ali (32), the last two wickets putting on 57 runs.

“Duckett once again took the England team on a timely rampage.”

Pakistan lost 10 wickets in two sessions this morning: they reached the lower total in the series thanks to Jack Leach, England’s most successful spinner, who took 4 for 107 and ended Pakistan’s innings just after the second session.

Brydon Carse also contributed to the English victory, charging in and taking vital wickets, including that of Mohammad Rizwan, early in the day.

Carse returned to bowl with an extra pace in the morning and got through Pakistan’s defense, removing Rizwan for 37 as he could not add much more to his total when the innings started.

Leach later on took two more wickets which made it impossible for Pakistan to add much more than 350 runs.

Even though Pakistan’s lower order came through with some aggressive batting late in the innings, England’s bowlers seemed satisfied with the day’s work, especially in view of the predominance of spin-friendly conditions back home.

Angelo Mathews oversees Pakistan’s spin bowling, but Duckett has been equally threatening this series.

In response, England began brightly, and Duckett was the dominant figure. Pakistan had to bowl spin, which seemed like a favorable scenario for Duckett after Jamal seemed to have twisted his hip.

He hit nine fours, many of these through the legs, to demonstrate his ease against slower bowlers.

Duckett continued where he left off, and a 73-run opening partnership with Crawley made sure England dominated the proceeding, scoring at a healthy rate of 96 for 1 in the first 17 overs.

Crawley, however, got out unscathed twice before being dismissed for 27.

Ollie Pope came in to bat at the same time as Duckett and made five runs before tea.

But aggression from Duckett had already started things up for England to press on and perhaps establish a sizeable lead in the first innings.

At the close of the second day, England had effectively closed the gap on Pakistan and put the game firmly into contention for the remaining days.
