Sumit Antil Keeps Paralympics Gold with Record Feat in Javelin
India’s javelin star Sumit Antil, was in dominating form in the Paris 2024 Paralympics, where he won his second successive gold with a string of record-breaking performances.
Throwing in the men’s F64 Javelin event on September 2, Sumit outclassed his competitors, setting new Paralympics records twice and confirming he is among the best of the best para-athletes.
A Record-Breaking Performance
“With his record-breaking 70.59-meter throw, Sumit Antil not only secured gold but also proved his dominance on the world stage.”
- First Throw: 69.11 meters – A new Paralympic record, surpassing his Tokyo 2020 performance.
- Second Throw: 70.59 meters – Improved his own record, showcasing exceptional skill and consistency.
- Third Throw: 66.66 meters – Despite not improving, this throw demonstrated his sustained prowess.
- Fifth Throw: 69.04 meters – Reinforced his position as the leader in the competition.
Sumit Antil was understandably the clear favorite for the gold after having won the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics with a new Paralympics record of 68. 55 meters.
Indeed, in Paris, Sumit did not take the time to let Benson know that he was now the boss.
The beginning of the day, he had good accuracy in his first throw, which measured 69. 11 meters – for two throws in a row
He improved on his Tokyo score and became a Paralympic record holder.
The form was perfect for the Indian athlete as he was still trying to break limits.
In his second attempt, Sumit leaped giant proportion and threw the dart a record 70.

He swam 59 meters, which is his new record after setting it only a few seconds ago, in addition to the fact that he leads the competition.
This throw was an exhibition of Sumit’s talent as well as showed us that he can continue to perform well when he is under pressure on the world stage.
The last throw to be thrown by Sumit was 66. 66 meters and this distance was regarded as quite a success despite the fact that he tried to make more records earlier.
His fourth and last throw was Alas, a foul throw, and he didn’t meet the requirement.
Though he failed in the next three attempts, he was successful in the fifth attempt, throwing another good throw of 69. 04 meters, putting him even more into the spotlight of the enlisted contenders of the championship.
With his record-breaking 70. The 59-meter throw won Sumit not only the gold but also a deaf message to his competitors that he was for the greater challenge in the para-athletics world.

Challengers Fall Short
Sumit had no match and despite the stiff competition that was offered by athletes from across the globe, Sumit’s authority was beyond doubt.
Sri Lanka’s Dulan Kodithuwakku stepped up to be a contender and threatened Sumit with some attacks that led him to a strong throw. But the best was not enough for Kodithuwakku to beat the Indian champion, who was unbeatable with his record-breaking heaves.
Whereas Sumit showed excellent performance, other Indian competitors in the event Sandeep and Sanjay Sargar, failed to emulate the same.
Sandeep took the fourth position while his best throw measured 62. Of the three runs he made, his best leap was 80 meters.
While it was a decent distance, it was not enough to get them on the podium, although they can consider it a respectable distance.
Even Sanjay, who came in seventh position, also had no chance to make his mark. Last year his longest heave measured to 58.
On his third trial, he got 03 meters, though it was evident that he could not perform as some of the best performers in the game, such as Sumit and other competitors in the event.
India’s Medal Tally Rises
Winning a gold medal was an asset to India’s increasing tally of medals in the Paris 2024 Paralympics.
Win in this way makes the total medals won by India to 14 medals, in which 3 gold, 5 silver, and 6 bronze medals were earned.
The victory of Sumit again proves his capability along with enhancement of the overall performance of the Indian para-athletics in the international arena.
Sumit Antil, in particular, has inspired many Net users and has become a real role model that with extra effort and hardworking one can achieve the greatest goals.
