The fifth day of the Paris Paralympics 2024 was another action-filled and hopeful for India where the country’s performers will try to add more medals to its tally.

The highlights of the day were Nitesh Kumar, who took on a regular badminton contest on the day in the SL3 Gold medal match, while Yogesh Kathuniya clinched a silver medal in the discus throw event.

Nitesh Kumar’s Match:

“The much-anticipated match of the day was Nitesh Kumar vs. Daniel Bethell of Great Britain in the men’s singles SL3 final. Kumar fought hard but ultimately fell short.”

The much-awaited match of the day was Nitesh Kumar Vs Daniel Bethell of Great Britain in the men’s singles SL3 final.

It was a match right from the beginning, and both the person demonstrated their talent and gave their best.

Nitesh tried to fight and make the score even at the end of the first game and challenged Bethell’s potential. 

But the accuracy of Bethell’s stroke-making placed him a little ahead, taking him to a 7-5 first-game lead.

In the course of the match, Nitesh tried his best but was overshadowed by Bethell’s powerful movement throughout the match.

The affair ended midway; the final decision was still unknown at the time of writing, though Nitesh did a good job of keeping the Indian fans enthralled.

“Yogesh Kathuniya won a silver medal in the men’s discus throw F56 final with a season-best throw of 42.22 meters.”

On the fifth day of competition, a veteran of the Paralympic Games, Yogesh Kathuniya, clinched yet another silver medal.

In the men’s discus throw F56 final, Yogesh performed best with a throw of 42, which was a season’s best. 22 meters.

His consistency throughout the event was good enough for the silver, and Brazil’s Claudiney Batista took gold with a Paralympic record of 46. 86 meters.

His victory brings his Paralympic total to two silvers back to back, Tokyo2020.

Mixed Doubles SH6:

“Sivarajan Solaimalai and Nithya Sre Sivan competed in the mixed doubles SH6 bronze medal match but lost to Indonesia’s Subhan and Rina Marlina.”

The day also had Sivarajan Solaimalai and Nithya Sre Sivan come up with a performance in the mixed doubles SH6 bronze medal match in badminton.

However, it was not a favourable day for the Indian pair, who lost the match 17-21, 12-21 to Indonesia’s Subhan and Rina Marlina.

Their trip to the bronze medal match was well deserved due to all the effort they put in and the talent that they showcased, and even though they didn’t manage to get a medal, their performance was quite impressive. 


Other Boosts from Day 5 

Being the final day of the games, the Indian athletes performed to expectations in different events that were held.

The first event for India coming in the medal contention was the para-athletics men’s discus throw F56 final in which Yogesh Kathuniya took part

The next event was the mixed 25m pistol SH1 qualification; Nihal Singh and Amir Ahmed Bhat competed. However, such events did not result in medals; nonetheless, it was seen how those athletes had tried their best.

Nishad Kumar, another great performer, won his second successive Paralympic silver in a season-best 2. 04 meters in the high jump event.

His success put India’s medal tally at one gold, two silver, and four bronze by the end of the fourth day of competition.

Day 5 was expected to provide a much-needed shot in the arm for the gold medal tally, especially with the badminton finals looming closer.

This is why the people behind the NOC and Team Nigeria are looking forward to more medals.

Indian para athletes keep on giving inspiring performances as the Paris Paralympics 2024 goes on.

Day 5 was also full of determination and skill of athletes like Nitesh Kumar, Yogesh Kathuniya and others who are fighting for the country to bring pride.

The badminton courts and archery ranges are likely to be busier in the coming days as several Indians are in the medal contention.
